Our Mission is to elect a new type of Democratic majority in Virginia, one which will create free and just communities; a thriving clean energy based economy; and an inclusive democracy of, by, and for the people, NOT big money interests.
We Are Electing Virginia Justice Democrats & Building a Progressive Movement in VA
We are working to build campaign support infrastructure for candidates running for state and local elected offices who are committed to running on the Virginia Justice Democrats’ platform. Not only are we looking for candidates who will work for Racial, Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice, but candidates who will also help us build a lasting progressive movement in VA. We believe in the power of movements to bring about real meaningful change.
We also seek to grow our movement by engaging Virginians in conversations about the issues we are fighting for through actions, media, and the policies our candidates champion, and by partnering with other progressive groups in VA in a coalition to advance our shared vision for a more just and compassionate Virginia that works for everyone.
We Are People Powered
Justice Democrats are grassroots organizers, activists, elected officials, and candidates from across Virginia and from different backgrounds. We believe there is more to bringing change to our government than “just voting blue”. We’re ready to bring the power back to the people because that is how movements start.
I am a Virginia Justice Democrat because I believe in people and the power of change, including the realization of human rights for everyone. People lose their power when they think they don’t have any. VAJD is here to remind us all that the power for change begins with us, first and foremost by voting in representatives that stand for racial, social, economic and environmental justice
My priority issue is climate and the environment. But no matter what policy issue you care about most, our current political and economic systems are so rigged to benefit the wealthiest that we are really just treading water when it comes to the most critical policy issues of our time. We cannot achieve a fair & equitable society while corporate money influence controls our legislators and policymakers.
I believe in VA JD because it’s time to reset our democracy and return political power back to the people. Our goal towards intersectional justice – social/racial, economic, and environmental – can only happen if we elect leaders who value people over profit and bold, progressive action over incrementalism. The “Virginia Way” has left people behind, and VA Justice Democrats is the hope we need to course correct.
I joined Virginia Justice Democrats to encourage and support leaders and organizers from within our communities who courageously raise their hands to run for office. I believe we can grow participation in our democracy if we work to elect more representatives who look like Virginia and who share and fight for our progressive values beyond election day.
In order to achieve a more just society, we must elect bold, unabashed, progressive leaders into office through whatever means necessary. The only way we can realize our progressive goals is through a mass movement of working class people signalling to the establishment that enough is enough. I joined the Virginia Justice Democrats because all Democrats are not created equal and I want to stand with my fellow progressive leaders, and all of those who are left behind by the ruling class to stand up and move our commonwealth further.
We need VA Justice Democrats because we need to end gerrymandering and institute non-partisan redistricting for fair and just elections.
We can no longer have politics as usual. We need to make the Virginia Way synonymous with campaign finance reform, expanding voting rights, and ensuring prosperity for everyone regardless of their zip code.
When you have Virginia Democrats at the highest levels tacitly approving of two massive gas pipelines that are destroying huge parts of the Commonwealth, it’s clear that things need to change. We need to elect better Democrats, people that are serious about protecting Virginians and responding appropriately to the climate crisis.
We can’t afford to go back to the status quo where the establishment and big donors decide who gets to run for office as a Democrat. I joined the VA Justice Democrats to ensure that progressive candidates who share my values have a shot at competing in fair and open primaries.
